In an evening of gastronomical surprises, artist and scent technician Ericka Duffy, world-leading barista Megan Barker and brewer Jamie Carmichael will whet your palate for the Festival’s other food- and drink- related offerings. Blending beers, bitters and beans, they will divulge some tricks of the trade, mess with malt mash and help you get creative with cocktails.

Don’t just play with your food – experiment with it!

Ericka Duffy

Curator of the evening, Ericka Duffy, is a writer, scent technician, publisher and visual artist whose collaborations have spiced up Edinburgh’s underground art scene since she arrived from Toronto in 2005. Ericka will uncover the medicinal origins of bitters and spirits, offering a fascinating expose of the world of food-glamour.

Jamie Carmichael

Jamie Carmichael is one of only a handful of brewers at the Williams Brothers Brewing Company, an independent brewery who pride themselves on producing craft ales with a distinctly Scottish flavour. Jamie will explain the biochemistry involved in the brewing process and present his ‘Malt Mash Live’, a real-time demonstration of the malting process. Beer tasting included.

Megan Barker

Scottish Barista of the Year 2011 and a self-confessed coffee geek, Megan Barker is Manager and Coffee Roaster for the Artisan Roast Cafes in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Kuala Lumpur. Her obsession with coffee and the roasting process is infectious – prepare to explore the dark, bitter world of the coffee bean.
